Children's And Family Programs
The children's and family programs are appropriate for children ages 5 years+ and their entire
families. Both feature a variety of dances, brief introductions to them, and lots of audience
interaction. Children learn how to yell “jaleos” such as Olé!, move their arms and hands like
flamenco dancers and clap to flamenco rhythm. Towards show's end volunteers are invited onstage
to perform a simple rumba flamenca danced with scarves. Afterwards I invite children (and
adults) to try out my various dance props such as the Spanish fan, bullfighters cape, mantón
(Spanish shawl) and castanets.
Adult Program
The adult program features more dance, as well as more anecdotal and educational information
about Spanish arts and culture. In particular I introduce (or reintroduce) adults to the poetry
and life of the great Spanish poet, Federico García Lorca, who was an avid flamenco aficionado.
Afterwards I offer an introductory castanet class to interested audience members (I bring the
castanets). In the past, adult attendees have expressed thanks for and a desire for more mature
programming. The pleasure has been mine. I often learn as much from their rich life experiences
as they do from me.
Add A Second Performer To The Children's, Family Or
Adult Program:
Enrich any program by adding a solo guitarist, who plays a selection of the timeless classical
compositions created for the Spanish guitar. It gives an audience the opportunity to experience
two uniquely Spanish performing arts, both dance and music, in one show. I particularly
recommend adding a second performer for adult programs.
